This year’s test has as its main objective the connection of abstract scientific knowledge with the daily life of the students and highlighting the importance of the role of the principles of engineering in the modern way of life. It is also important to understand the historical course of formation of this way of life and the important place held in this process by the invention of simple machines. The above is sought to be achieved by highlighting the relationships of abstract scientific concepts such as “force”, “motion”, “friction”, “pressure” with the principles of operation of simple machines and the need of people to make their lives easier.
Regular category : “Simple machines”
All six simple machines included in the test (wedge, inclined plane, lever, wheel, and pulley) have been used for thousands of years, and the physics behind several of them was quantified by the Greek philosopher Archimedes (ca. 287–212 BC) .). When used together and combined, these machines can create an even greater mechanical advantage for humans, as in the case of a bicycle or a car.

IoT and Physical Computing High School Category: “Citybots”
Cities are hubs of ideas, commerce, culture, science, productivity, social, human and economic development. In 2008, for the first time in history, the world’s urban population outnumbered its rural population. This milestone marked the arrival of a new “urban millennium” and, by 2050, it is expected that two-thirds of the world’s population will live in urban areas.

High School Category “Light Pollution”
Most environmental pollution on Earth comes from humans and their inventions. Take, for example, the automobile or that miraculous man-made material, plastic. Today, car emissions are a major source of air pollution that contributes to climate change, and plastics fill our ocean, posing a significant health risk to marine animals.
The teams who participate in this category of the Contest will be given a certificate of participation in the European program “CLiC-PoLiT“.
